We are very pleased to be hosting the World Forum for Motor Museums on its return to the United Kingdom.
The forum was founded by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and first took place in November 1989. In addition to England, the forum has been held in Australia, France and Germany. The most recent was in Detroit, USA, in 2005 – so we are delighted to have it back in the UK to celebrate the tenth time that the world’s motor museums and major collectors have got together for this important International event.
The World Forum for Motor Museums provides vital information to the industry on all aspects of global developments and ensures we sustain the future of our motoring heritage. At The Haynes International Motor Museum, we believe that looking at progress all around the world is the only way to cover the complete history of the automobile and motorcycle.
You will learn more about this museum during the forum but here is a brief introduction.
The Haynes International Motor Museum was founded in 1985 and is the UK's largest international exhibition of the cars, both great and humble, from around the world. It is a living and working museum, home to more than 340 cars and motorcycles. These range from nostalgic classics of the 30`s 40`s 50`s and 60`s to the to remarkable supercars of recent years – such as the Jaguar XJ220 and the Lamborghini Countache and from the humble Austin Seven through the magnificent 1931 Duesenberg to the glorious Bentleys and Rolls Royces.
To preserve our motoring heritage properly, all vehicles are maintained in full working order and nearly every car in the museum is driven at least once a year on our one kilometre test track.
We are actively committed to education and offer schools and sixth form college’s programmes based on history, science, technology, design and sociology – using the museum exhibits as the major resource.
We hope you enjoy the 2007 Haynes World Forum for Motor Museums, our range of facilities and the diverse programme of activities.
